Beat boxing boy vs. dazzling vocalist-Who will it be?

From the time of the top 24, I've felt that this season's American Idol finalists weren't what they were last year. I mean last year, Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, and even Elliott Yamin (Ack!) none of which won the finale, came out with record deals and a great career underway. Last season I was on the edge of my seat from the 6th finalist on not really sure who would win because the competition was so fierce and matched so perfectly. By the end, I was clueless as to who would win, and to be honest I didn't really care. Taylor and Katharine are both talented and they both deserved it, although I do think Chris should have made it at least one more round (as opposed to Elliott).

I've not been as impressed with this year's finalists. I think for the most part they've all been talented (with the exception of Sanjaya). But did Melinda Doolittle's fantastic musical talent really represent America? This time around, its been a toss up for me as to who gets voted off each week--they all seemed mediocre compared to last season's finalists, and I can't forsee as many non-winners getting record deals. I've been impressed with Blake's daring style, surprised that with such a unique calling card he's made it to the finale. He's talented, he's cute, he's got a nice ballad-like voice when he's singing songs he hates. Jordin is amazingly talented at only 17, I can't imagine how terrific she'll sound in a few years, assuming of course she doesn't turn into a brittney or a christina. It was a terrific finale. But as Simon said last night, Blake was the entertainer and Jordin was the vocalist. Hands down, Jordin ruled the show.

There's my prediction, for what it's worth.

Serendipitous

I have rose bushes! They sprang up all on their own! What a pleasant surprise!

I cut some and put them on my kitchen table. It looks like my husband got me fresh pink roses for Mother's Day, but really they were free!

Another great find this week is a much anticipated china hutch! I've been wanting decent furniture for four years of marriage, and its finally starting to happen. Thanks to Elizabeth and Frank for their generosity and to June for being a three-paycheck-month, I was finally able to get myself a hutch. It even has a curio light in the top! I knew what I wanted and stumbled upon the perfect one! Hooray! Now I need to actually get the china itself here from Mom and Dad's attic. (Notice I've already put rubber bands on the cabinet doors...)

My little angel

The baby's crying. It's 2am. Mother's Day. As usual, I respond with that sleepy charm I've managed to master. Baby girl just wants some love. Chris appears in the doorway and tells me to go back to bed--he's got this one. Be the rescuer or the rested? I choose rested. Leah starts bawling again when I hand her over, apparently she's a momma's girl today. I feel loved, but don't turn back.

After our weekly three-hour stint at church, Leah is ready for a loooong nap. She slept from 1-3:30, and played happily in her crib until I rescued her at 4. That's one heck of a Happy Mother's Day!

What a week!

We had a terrific week entertaining the better half of the Sorenson crew for BYU Women's Conference. (Kudos to all the husbands for letting them come!) Gramma was very pleased to have all of her grandchildren, born and unborn, under the same roof all at once. We finally got to meet Jessica, and she sure is a beauty!

After having a very full house for a few days, I've made several conclusions:
  • We need more beds, pillows, and blankets to have on hand
  • Three car seats in one sedan is just one too many
  • I should have company more often so that I have that motivation to scrub bathrooms, mop floors, clean out the car, etc.

Mom, can you come back and empty my dishwasher?
